Bake Yourself Silly Gift Basket DIY

Dashing through the dough,
with a broken spatula...
O'er the pies we go,
noshing all the way...

And so it has begun...
the season of ~~eating~~ baking, right?

Today I have a great gift idea for you,
and it's pretty simple to put together.
Perfect for the bakers in your life.
The Bake Yourself Silly gift basket.

Start with a nice glass batter bowl.
This one is from Anchor Hocking and I
picked it up at Wally World for about $8.
I like the shape of it, it has a lid and can be used in the oven.

Find a cute kitchen towel or two, HomeGoods is your friend.
I included some easy Betty Crocker mix packets...
peanut butter cookies, oatmeal chocolate chip, and some blueberry muffins.

I also made up a DIY gift sack with the dry
ingredients from my favorite pumpkin bread.

Don't forget to add a can of pumpkin.

Add a stack of muffin papers...it was close to Halloween

when I made these, that explains the candy corn.

Throw in some hand stamped bamboo spoons for little extra personalization.

Put a little tissue filler in the bottom of your bowl,

arrange all items for the best fit and presentation.

Find a fabulous gift basket bag wrap thingamabob big enough

to fit all your goodies, tie it with a cute tag and some twine...

And you're ready to give an awesome

afternoon of baking to someone you love.

just think...sprinkles, cupcake decorating tools,
cookies cutters...make it your own.

I recently made these two fun baskets as door prizes

for a chili cookoff my mom and I organized.

They were a big hit.

I've been trying to get this post up for some time.

It's just been crazy around here.

We've had some wild family stuff going on since summer

and I, for one, am ready for it to calm down.

DIY Personalized Cutting Board

Today I'm showing you some personalized gifts we made for Christmas.

Yes, I know Christmas is over...

but hey, there are only 345 days left till NEXT Christmas!

The idea for the spoons came from Amy @ The Idea Room...

she shows you just how to do it. :)

I'm gonna share how we did the cutting board.

It's simple and super inexpensive.

The only reason I didn't post this before...

well, we didn't exchange gifts with these friends until New Year's Eve

and I was afraid she would see it before I got to give it to her!

I found the cutting board at TJ Maxx or HomeGoods.

I wanted bamboo so it would be durable...

this one is pretty big and cost about $12.

Can't beat that.

I used a Silhouette to cut out the monogram from vinyl.

It didn't want to stick to the bamboo.

Boo hoo bamboo.

I got it to stick just enough to use a pencil to trace the outline...

and that's really all I needed.

Once I had the outline, we used this ancient wood-burning

tool that belonged to my mother in law.

Not sayin' my MIL is old or anything...but...

the paper inserts that came with it told of how there was a metal shortage

due to WWII so if you needed the heating element replaced,

you first had to send back the one you had.

Crazy, right?

Anyway...I used a sharp point first to do the outline...then filled in.

Sometimes...I just did whatever. :)

We also used the wood-burning tool on the spoons

instead of the sharpie Amy used in her instructions.

To keep it consistent and not have to worry about it coming off.

I lightly oiled the board, but it probably wasn't necessary.

I think they turned out gorgeous!

My friend cried and said she didn't want to use them.

I told her to use the back side.

My sister said I needed to make her one.

I guess they were a hit!

I need to pick up some more spoons.

I think this would be an awesome wedding gift.

Or an anniversary gift.

Or a housewarming gift.

Or an "I think you're great and I wanted to play with wood-burning tools" gift...

Speaking of my mother in law...

we made a couple of spoons for her and her husband, too...

aren't they cute?

Anyway...back to my rambling...

You could even do this with something other than a monogram...

I'm thinking "Kelly's Kitchen"...

but I guess that would only work if your name is Kelly.

Otherwise it might just be weird.

Custom Painted Champagne Flutes

Are they flutes?

Or do we just call them toasting glasses?

Whichever...they are now hereby officially dubbed the

dragonfly wedding toasting flutes of Brie and Jeremy.

Brie is the oldest daughter of our dance studio director.

She approached me at her youngest sister's graduation in May

and asked if I would help her out with a problem of sorts.

It seems she and her fiancé found some fabulous flutes at a

thrift store and wanted to use them at the wedding.

As you can see in the picture below,

they had some sort of etching on them...probably some sort of event.

She asked if I could paint over them

with their chosen theme and colors...include the date...

I said SURE!

Their wedding was turquoise, white, and silver.

Very pretty.

And, as you can see...

dragonflies were the main theme.

I used glass paint from Martha Stewart

and another brand, possibly Folk Art.

I can't remember who else usually has it.

I was concerned that you usually have

to bake the glasses to set the paint,

but I discovered that you don't have to anymore.

The bottles say they fully cure on their own in about 3 weeks.

That was a relief since I didn't know how they would hold up.

I also used a black and a white paint pen for the fine lines and writing.

Since I have trouble drawing symmetrically,

I cut out a template and used it against the

glass so my wings would be even on both sides.

Some turquoise green "reeds" cover up the original etching.

The dragonflies have little silver highlights on their wings.

I've said before I don't consider myself a great painter,

but I am happy with how these turned out.

The bride was thrilled so I was, too.

I was really happy to be able to do this for them...

since her fiancé was involved in an accident about a month before the wedding.

He does HVAC and fell from a ladder, breaking both heels.

Love perseveres...

their wedding venue was able to accommodate the wheelchair

and I believe some absolutely wonderful memories were made that day.

For a couple of bucks and some glass paint,

anyone can have custom toasting flutes for their special occasion.
